A. By All Means
 Because today I am in good mental state, I let you buy this television on credit. So, do not think that I put something over on you.

1. (Not) at all = (not) in any way (used in negative expressions)
2. By all means = definitely, certainly (opposite: by no means)
3. Frame of mind = mental state
4. Cut corners = economise
5. (buy) on credit = pay for something in periodic installments
6. Put something = deceive someone
over on someone
B. Putting in A Word
 If you did not do any crime, never mind! You are in the clear. He has no business doing judgement to you. It stands to reasons because you are in the right position.

1. (it/that) stands to reason = is logical
Have no business doing = have no right to do something; Something should not
2. Never mind = don’t worry; don’t bother
3. Put in a word for someone= say something in favour of
or something someone
4. In the clear = free of suspicion, blame, or obligation
5. Make up for something = compensate






C. The Last Straw
 I do not like the way he talks. Besides talking too much and not come to the point, he said that our faculty is silly. He put his foot in it. I think it is the last straw, I want to leave this room soon.

1. Put one’s foot in it = say or do something that is precisely the wrong thing to say or do in given situation.
2. Have words with = quarrel

3. On edge = nervous; irritable
4. Come to the point = be direct, giving the essential facts
5. The last straw = that incident which, after a series of similiar ones, causes one to became angry
6. Take a stand on something = declare firmly that one is for or against something


D. Extra Week
 Nina’s conditions go from bad to worse. She is feeling under the weather and I think she is being caught cold. I think she had better to take it easy for a few days, so her conditions will be better.

1. Under the weather = unwell, although not serious ill
2. Catch cold = become sick with cold
3. (it/that) serves one right = get exactly what one deserves
4. Take it easy = relax
5. Go from bad to worse = deteriorate; get gradually worse
